Terms of Use
Last updated: October 19, 2026
These terms govern your use of the PrivateWispr apps for Mac and iPhone. Contact: support@privatewispr.com.
1. Accepting these terms
By downloading or using PrivateWispr, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app. On iPhone, Apple's standard licence agreement for App Store apps applies alongside these terms.
2. What the app does
PrivateWispr turns your voice into text. Speech recognition and text cleanup run on your device, and your audio and transcripts stay there. The app downloads speech and cleanup model files from huggingface.co when you first use a feature that needs them. The Mac app also checks a licence key with Polar, if you enter one, and looks for updates on privatewispr.com. The Privacy Policy has the details.
3. Plans, prices and trials
PrivateWispr is free to download, and the free plan is free for good. Prices are in US dollars.
- Free plan: on Mac, on iPhone, 1,500 words and 1 meeting a month; on Mac, 2,500 words and 1 meeting a month. A meeting counts once it passes 30 seconds. Nothing is deleted when you reach a limit, and a dictation or meeting already running is not cut off.
- The iPhone app, when released, is sold through the App Store at the prices shown there.
- iPhone Pro (unlimited dictation): $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year.
- iPhone Max (Pro plus unlimited Meeting Notes): $14.99 a month or $139.99 a year.
- Mac Pro (unlimited dictation and Meeting Notes): $14.99 a month or $139.99 a year.
Mac and iPhone are separate purchases; a plan bought for one doesn't unlock the other.
Trials: the Mac trial gives you 2 weeks of everything and needs no card. iPhone Pro offers a 2-week free trial through Apple to anyone Apple says is eligible; unless you cancel before it ends, Apple starts the subscription.
Apple charges and handles iPhone purchases. Polar handles Mac purchases as our payment processor and merchant of record: Polar runs the checkout, sends receipts and collects sales tax. Polar records each buyer as a customer of our store, so we can see your email address and purchase in Polar's dashboard; we use that only for receipts, licence keys, support and refund requests. Polar's buyer terms apply to the purchase itself. For iPhone purchases, Apple's standard licence agreement covers subscription renewal and cancellation.
A Mac licence key works on up to 3 Macs at once. The Mac app checks the key with Polar once a day; if it can't reach Polar for more than 7 days, it falls back to the free plan until it can.
4. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control. You may not reverse engineer the app except where the law forbids that restriction, and you may not resell or sublicense the app.
5. Recording meetings and other people
The apps can record and transcribe meetings. You must get consent from everyone you record, and you are responsible for following the recording laws that apply where you are. The apps remind you: on iPhone, the line "Always ask for consent before recording others." sits on the Start card in Meetings; on Mac, it appears in the meetings setup when a permission is missing. The reminder is a courtesy, not legal advice, and it does not move any responsibility to us.
6. Your content
Everything you dictate, record or store with the app is yours. We claim no rights over it. It stays on your device, so you control it: you can export it, or delete it, on Mac with "Delete everything" in Settings, Privacy & data, and on iPhone by clearing your history in Settings and deleting meetings one by one. The Privacy Policy has the exact steps.
7. Accuracy
PrivateWispr turns speech into text with automatic models, so transcripts and speaker labels will sometimes be wrong or incomplete. We do not promise that any output is accurate. Check it before you rely on it or send it to anyone, and take extra care with medical, legal, financial or safety-related uses. The app is not a certified transcription or medical device.
8. Updates and models
Model files are large: hundreds of megabytes to a few gigabytes. Downloading them uses your internet connection and may count against a metered plan. You can free disk space by removing the Smart Cleanup model at any time (Settings, Smart Cleanup on Mac; Settings on iPhone) and, on iPhone, language packs on the Languages screen. On Mac, the Performance page only unloads the speech engines from memory; to delete their files, remove the folders listed in the Privacy Policy. On iPhone, other downloaded models go when you delete the app. Mac app updates are signed, and none installs until you confirm it.
9. Refunds and cancellation
Mac purchases: subscription fees are non-refundable, except where the law requires a refund. We may grant a refund case by case, at our sole discretion. To ask, email support@privatewispr.com from the email address you bought with. Polar handles Mac purchases as merchant of record, and Polar's buyer terms apply to the purchase itself. Polar can also refund a purchase on its own, for example within 60 days of purchase or to settle a dispute, even under a no-refunds policy.
iPhone purchases: refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple's refund policy applies, and we can't refund App Store purchases ourselves.
Cancelling stops the next renewal; your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. On Mac, cancel in Polar's customer portal; the link is in the receipt Polar emailed you. On iPhone, cancel in Settings, Apple Account, Subscriptions. If a refund is given, by us, by Polar on its own or to settle a dispute, or by Apple, paid features end and the free plan applies; nothing in the app is deleted. See the refunds and cancellation page.
10. Warranty disclaimer
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that transcripts will be accurate.
11. Limitation of liability
We are not responsible for knock-on losses: lost income, lost business, lost data, lost time, or the cost of correcting a transcript. For anything else, the most we owe you in total, for all claims of every kind taken together, is the larger of (1) what you paid for PrivateWispr in the 12 months before the event that led to the claim, including payments made through Apple or Polar, or (2) 100 USD. Nothing in these terms limits liability the law does not allow us to limit, such as liability for death or personal injury, for fraud, or for harm we cause on purpose or through gross negligence, and nothing here takes away consumer rights you have where you live.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page with its date. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the new terms.
