Download PrivateWispr for Mac.

One disk image. Drag the app to Applications, allow two permissions, and dictate. Speech recognition runs on your Mac from the first word.

  • macOS 15 or later
  • Apple silicon (M1 or newer)
  • Signed with Developer ID
  • Free plan, no account

First launch

  1. Open the disk image

Double-click PrivateWispr.dmg in your Downloads folder, then drag PrivateWispr onto the Applications folder in the window that opens.

  2. Open it from Applications

Start PrivateWispr from your Applications folder, not from the disk image. The first time, macOS asks you to confirm that you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. You can then eject the disk image.

  3. Allow the microphone and Accessibility

The app asks for two permissions. The microphone lets it hear you. Accessibility lets your shortcut work in every app and paste the text at your cursor. You can turn either off later in System Settings, Privacy & Security.

  4. Let the speech model download once

The speech model is about 470 MB and stays on your Mac. Smart Cleanup data (about 1.4 GB) follows in the background; dictation works before it finishes. After this, PrivateWispr works offline.

  5. Press your shortcut and talk

Click into any text field, press the shortcut, speak, and press it again. Your words land at the cursor. Choose your own shortcut in Settings: a key combination, or a modifier key on its own, like Option. The free plan covers 2,500 words and 1 meeting a month; Pro starts with 2 weeks free, no card.
